Foxes
Foxes are known to be sneaky creatures. For example, every time you see a fox in literature, you can be almost certain that something sneaky is going to happen. For example, take the story of The Gingerbread Man. In the end, the fox tricks and eats the gingerbread man. Also, think about the popular novel, The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. Foxface, a competitor in The Hunger Games, is really sneaky and clever.

Although the fennec fox is a very small animal, its ears are about 6 inches long! What is the purpose of such a small animal having such big ears? The answer is body temperature control. In the heat of Africa, a fennec fox's ears help to keep it cool. Plus, fennec foxes are nocturnal. Temperatures are always cooler at night.
The arctic fox, however, lives in a very chilly climate--temperatures drop to as low as 50 degrees Celsius. In contrast to a fennec fox's long ears, an arctic fox's ears are short. This helps to keep the arctic fox warm. Also, the arctic fox's white coat helps it to blend in with the snow in winter. But when spring comes, the coat changes color to being brown so the fox can blend in among plants. With all these adaptations, it's no wonder that foxes are so often considered "clever"!
